Remember this guy? That value study really helped me today with the color version of this painting. This handsome fellow was enjoying the farmer's market last year. One more month and our markets open again. Looking forward to more fresh produce and fresh photo ops.
Hi Kathleen,
ReplyDeleteI love your depictions of animals...accurate rendering with emotion! So how do you manage the details like the sparkle in the eye in such a small format?
Thank you for sharing your work!
Susan
Beautiful work!! He's adorable..
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Susan and hmuxo!
ReplyDeleteSusan, I paint with flat brushes that give me a good chiseled edge, anywhere from 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch, (though most fall in between). For very small areas (like the eye highlight) I use the corner of the brush. Takes a little bit of practice, but I like the effect of using a flat that way, instead of a small round brush.
Thank you, Kathleen. It seems that the small rounds make picky paintings so that makes sense when I look at your work. Love your animal paintings!
